The United Way of Estevan is in its 41st year of fundraising by way of a telethon.
Every year in mid-October, board members, volunteers and community members pull together with Access Communications and Golden West Radio to successfully reach their goal. We are proud to say that, all but twice in our history, we have been the first in Canada to reach our goal. As well, we are #1 in Saskatchewan per capita. We do not attribute this to the work of the Board, but to the generous people of our community.
Held at the Estevan Legion Hall, this 33 hour telethon is filled with local entertainment, from school groups to bands of all types, dancers, choirs, plus much more. There is even an occasional surprise from the United Way Board of Directors.
Volunteers for the telethon consist of members of our service clubs, students, youth and church groups, senior citizens, members of our professional and business community and our agencies. This one event pulls the community together as a whole, with one goal in mind-to raise money for our agencies.
Our Board of Directors is made up of approximatly 25 volunteers. From this number, a President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President are elected, all of whom form the Executive Committee, along with the Past President.
Our committees consist of: Banking, Community Building, Entertainment, Facilities, Finance & Allocations, Food Services, Fundraising, History, Phones & Cameras, Public Relations, Production, Raffle and Security. The Board appoints a producer and co-producer who oversee the production of the Telethon.
